Trump adviser: ‘You couldn’t get the truth out of Hillary if you waterboarded her’

A senior adviser in Donald Trump’s presidential campaign said on Friday that Democratic rival Hillary Clinton wouldn’t tell the truth if she was subjected to waterboarding.

“She stonewalled the [inspector general] and now everybody’s taking the fifth,” said Barry Bennett during an interview with CNN. “You couldn’t get the truth out of Hillary if you waterboarded her.”

Bennett, who previously worked for Ben Carson’s presidential campaign, was apparently referring to the State Department’s inspector general’s report on Clinton’s use of a private email server during her time as secretary of State.

Waterboarding is a harsh interrogation method that was used on terrorism suspects during the George W. Bush administration. It involves pouring water on someone’s face to create the sensation of drowning and is called a form of torture by human rights advocates and others.

Trump has said he would be willing to bring back waterboarding as president — and “a whole lot more.”

“If they would expand the laws, I would do a lot more than waterboarding. You have to get the information from these people. We have to be smart and we have to be tough. We can’t be soft and weak, which is what we are right now.”
